Two Spanish doctors, a surgeon, Dr. Guillermo Garcia Serrano and a dermatologist, Dr. Lucia Lucía Turrión Merino, spent ten days in Uganda in July of this year, helping out in local health centres and visiting primary schools in the area.
They operated in the Kakumiro Health Centre IV, which has a small theatre, and also saw patients in the Igayaza Health Centre III. Gregory Kaijamurubi, who finished his degree in medicine this July with the support of the Adelante Africa sponsorship programme, worked alongside the doctors.
They visited two different schools while in Uganda, one of which being St Joseph’s Primary School, and encouraged the children to work hard to achieve their objectives. The medical staff of the Health Centres, the school children and the local people were very happy about the visit, and we are all hoping that they will come back again next year!
Before they left they set up a “long distance dermatology clinic”, leaving a telephone with a good quality camera so that local doctors can take photographs of problems they are not familiar with, and dermatologists in Spain can help with diagnose and treatment.
Thank you Guillermo and Lucía for your help and ongoing support!
