Adelante Africa Secondary School

Adelante Africa Secondary School is a private, non-profit boarding school in Igayaza. It aims to provide four years of affordable, quality education to enable children in a remote part of Uganda to achieve the (UCE) Ugandan Certificate of Education.

Current situation

The doors opened in February 2017 with 4 classrooms, accommodation for teaching staff, a kitchen and storeroom and an administration block.  Students were enrolled for Senior 1 (S1) and Senior 2 (S2) and are currently using the spare classrooms and store room as temporary dormitories.

Future plans

During 2017 the laboratories will be completed and equipped. Dormitories will also be built to vacate classrooms for Senior 3 (S3) and Senior 4 (S4) as the school grows. Future building work will include a multi-purpose hall, additional classrooms and a library.

Every year we offer scholarships to children from the Igayaza area who get a high grade in the PLE (Primary Leavers Examination) but whose families or guardians can’t afford to send them to secondary school. These scholarships are funded by individual sponsors.

We currently employ a headteacher and 5 experienced teachers to cover the different areas of the curriculum. This number will increase as the school grows.  All of the teachers live on site. Some of the teachers’ salaries are covered by school fees and the rest are funded by individual sponsors.
